clip art

Microsoft Word may be a good example of how a technology may enable people to communicate in a way they desire. At least in my experience, word processors have inspired most people to consider the typefaces and sizes in what they write, and use italics, boldface and bullet points. In semi-informal material such as invitations, information newsletters, posters, holiday greetings et cetera, people also make much use of clip art, the free, little images that ship with Office.

I don't think it's the quality of the clip art images that make people use them. It is more the view that it is nice to have some image on the page. Better with a clip art picture than no picture.
