counting countries

Mark blogs the country counting game, played by Norman Walsh.

Well, let's see:

Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Great Britain, Czechoslovakia (before it split in two), Bulgaria, Austria, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Zimbabwe, United States. 17.

Living in Europe makes the game so much simpler. It would only be fair if Americans were allowed to count states as countries. In that case, I could beef up my numbers with:

Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Georgia, California, Idaho, and Utah.

Total 24. No, wait, the sleepover rule: I've been dozens of times in Massachusetts, but as we lived in Rhode Island we always drove back. I only slept one night at Logan after a delayed flight, and that doesn't count. (It only was two hours, too.) Many Norwegians could say the same thing of Sweden or Finland.

Would D.C. count?

Never been to France (except airport). That will be corrected.
