Friday, my big Getting Things Done document was suddenly corrupted. Tinderbox opened it, but it contained only one note, with lots of xml code. I have no other way of keeping tracks of all the things I have promised people to do.
No problem, I have three different backups of my important documents; Apple's Backup program copies all my valuable data to two external drives and my iPod every day. It's just the slight problem that Getting Things Done is not among those important documents. It's on my iDisk, since I access it from different computers.
It's so important, it wasn't in my backup routine.
I am pretty certain that Apple will keep it safe in the iDisk, but I may still corrupt the document myself, and need the previous version. Like I did Friday.
I sweated for a few hours, until I opened the document in BBEdit to look at the XML file. XML files are easy to read. I compared my corrupt file with another, working one, and replaced four lines of code. Presto! My document is back.
Thank you, Eastgate, for making a smart application, letting me keep my data mine!
